Hello Internet users,
The death of the trainer in a water park in Florida has made many people bounce! But why? Are you surprised?
Now people will think that orcas are dangerous, man-eating animals. It's dramatic to continue to imagine so many negative things about them, on the same level as sharks. Poor them!
You must know that orcas are intelligent, sociable animals, composed of a hyper-developed matriarchal system. I met them in Canada during my voluntary work in 1997, the language and the identification of the groups are structured.
It is true that this animal named Tilikum has already caused the death in the past of individuals in different circumstances. But finally, in a POND, what living conditions!
Let's stop making the animal feel guilty and condemning it to death under the pretext that it killed a person! Are we sure that it was voluntary or just a game? The orca can weigh 9 tons as an adult and measure 9 meters. A simple "tap" of its flipper can sink you in an instant. I am sad for this person and his family.
But we continue to wonder if this animal is "crazy", "aggressive", "conscious or not", "unfit or not", etc..... everything is ridiculous, it simply does not deserve to live in a ZOO!
He needs space, freedom, family, to be able to flourish in his basic environment. The years pass for the orcas, but they never forget where they come from. I remember very well the orca CORKY, locked up in the Seattle zoo, he was able to recognize by a recording the sounds of his family coming from his native Canadian waters.
When I hear the director of Marineland zoo in France telling us that it is a powerful animal, with particular reflexes, he forgot to say that his park has orcas and that it makes a bad publicity!
I would like to finish by saying that we must protect and understand them in their natural environment, and stop taking them for circus animals.
Sincerely.
Montreal, Qc, Canada, March 2010.
