No protection for killer whale habitat: Canada sued. Six environmental groups launched a lawsuit against Fisheries and Oceans Canada on October 8. The department is allegedly failing to meet its legal obligation to protect critical habitat for resident killer whales in British Columbia waters.
The International Whaling Commission (IWC) was created by the Washington Convention (1946) in a context of overexploitation of large cetaceans. Originally intended to ensure "the judicious conservation of the whale species and, consequently, to make possible the orderly development of the whaling industry", the IWC has progressively given itself the mission of whale conservation.

I was thinking of doing my 3rd summer season in Canada but things have changed. I will only do it for a month or so before returning to Montreal.
For my third year in Quebec, I am going once again on the boats to work with cetaceans.
Only this time, I will not be in research like last year, but basically as a boat captain. The type of boat are inflatables similar to zodiacs.
The new thing to navigate is to get additional and mandatory certificates to pilot along the coast. This is a problem that requires me to go through training in order to be compliant with the - Canadian Coast Guard -.
In any case, I would be in Northern Quebec, in - Upper North Shore -after the village of Tadoussac, with the community Innu Essipit where some 200 natives live in a reserve on the St. Lawrence River.
The company - Essipit Cruises - has been around for a long time.
As usual, I will not be able to take care of my website during the whole season because I start on June 2nd until the end of September.
I'll be back with photos and comments on my work at sea.
