Hello to all,

Our report entitled: Census, photo-identification and behavioral study on the bottlenose dolphin population Tursiops truncatus of Rangiroa atoll (French Polynesia) from February 2008 to February 2009has just been completed.

It is the result of a long teamwork and patience on the field. We were 10 people to participate from afar or closely to obtain this result. Of course, I am at the base of this first volumeBut without everyone's help, I would never have been able to write it.

Introduction

Nur service to meet the dolphins depends on the tide. We need an inbound tide for the Drift Snorkeling activity and an outbound tide for the Dolphin Watch trip. Unfortunately, this is not always the case, as there are often delays or advances on the usual schedule. In this study, the majority of the outings take place during the -outflow- but we have exceptions.
When I arrived, I continued this work to better understand the dolphins but by enriching the data. My knowledge of cetaceans in research and in the field, allowed me to bring additional notes, essential to know a group in a determined area. Everything seems perfect. It is possible that errors have crept into this report and I apologize in advance. Some readers and specialists will have questions, in which case I will be very happy to answer them. This study is in two volumes. A first volume between February 2008 and February 2009 and a second between February 2008 and February 2010. Two years is the minimum to answer the questions of the first year. But it is still too little. In this work, it is important to specify that the average used is on a twelve-month scale. Some data was not brought in during the first six months so the average may seem low. For this reason, you will find two tables (Appendix 1) that show a better monthly average for the year 2008 between August 4 and December 30, 2008. The date of July 26, 2008 is the beginning of the observations for female dolphins, for the unidentified category, the excursion and diving boats. I will emphasize the second table in my analysis because it provides more detail on this group of dolphins. Response items such as "no response" indicate an oversight or that the dolphins were not observed

Enjoy your reading. Sincerely.

French Polynesia, August 2009.
