Con el reciente vertido de petr\u00f3leo en Mauricio, me enfad\u00e9 y entristec\u00ed por la contaminaci\u00f3n, porque conozco muy bien este magn\u00edfico lugar. Pens\u00e9 en Delphine Legay y en todas las personas que conoc\u00ed en 1999. Entonces busqu\u00e9 noticias de su familia Legay en Francia y pude obtener una respuesta.<\/p>

En 1999 trabaj\u00e9 como voluntaria para Delphine Legay en Mauricio y Rodrigues, ayud\u00e1ndola en sus investigaciones sobre mam\u00edferos marinos. Fue al principio de su programa y probablemente fui su primer ayudante. Me qued\u00e9 all\u00ed un mes y segu\u00ed en contacto con ella. Pens\u00e9 en volver alg\u00fan d\u00eda para continuar su trabajo.<\/p>

Pero se fue demasiado pronto, en 2001.
No puedo olvidar nadar con 8 cachalotes o delfines mulares y trabajar con ella fue algo \u00fanico. Nos un\u00eda el mismo amor por los cet\u00e1ceos y por casualidad nacimos el mismo d\u00eda: el 25 de enero.<\/p>

\"Homenaje a Delphine Legay (1973-2001):<\/h3>

Becada en 1997 por la Fundaci\u00f3n Marcel Bleustein-Blanchet para la Vocaci\u00f3n, Delphine Legay estudiaba en la Sorbona de Par\u00eds, donde escrib\u00eda una tesis sobre la biolog\u00eda del comportamiento de los cet\u00e1ceos. En Mauricio, Delphine dio a conocer a los mauricianos \"sus\" delfines y puso en marcha un programa de observaci\u00f3n para ayudar a protegerlos.<\/em><\/p>

Por desgracia, Delphine muri\u00f3 en 2001 mientras nadaba con los delfines.<\/em><\/p>

Apasionada y entregada, Delphine ha dedicado toda su energ\u00eda, tenacidad y empe\u00f1o a <\/em>profesionalidad, para completar su proyecto de observatorio en Mauricio. Ha dejado <\/em>numerosos documentos y fotograf\u00edas de los cet\u00e1ceos que viven en el Oc\u00e9ano \u00cdndico. El trabajo que inici\u00f3 en Mauricio form\u00f3 parte del primer observatorio de ballenas de la regi\u00f3n. De madre mauriciana, Delphine lleg\u00f3 a Mauricio en 1999 para emprender su primer proyecto de observaci\u00f3n de ballenas. <\/em>un estudio de la poblaci\u00f3n de delfines en la costa oeste de la isla, especialmente en el <\/em>Tamarin Bay, para su tesis doctoral. Nuestra isla se convirti\u00f3 en su nuevo hogar. Fund\u00f3 la Asociaci\u00f3n C\u00e9ta-Squale para apoyar proyectos de investigaci\u00f3n sobre ballenas y tiburones, <\/em>y las interacciones que pueden existir entre estas dos importantes especies marinas.<\/em><\/p>

Delphine ten\u00eda varios objetivos importantes al completar su estudio, entre ellos educar a las comunidades locales sobre la necesidad de proteger la vida marina, mediante formaci\u00f3n, implic\u00e1ndolas en la investigaci\u00f3n y hablando con los ni\u00f1os. Ella <\/em>tambi\u00e9n quiso contribuir a proteger la biodiversidad marina escribiendo instrucciones sobre c\u00f3mo comportarse respetuosamente con los animales del mar.<\/em><\/p>

Durante este periodo, Delphine opt\u00f3 por promover el turismo en la regi\u00f3n desarrollando actividades de ecoturismo para recaudar fondos para su investigaci\u00f3n. Llevaba a los turistas en su barco a observar los delfines. <\/em><\/p>

Con ello, ha contribuido a gestionar la floreciente industria del avistamiento de delfines de forma que se garantice la protecci\u00f3n de la especie y se fomente la concienciaci\u00f3n sobre la importancia de proteger la biodiversidad.<\/em><\/p>
